IIoT platforms initially emerged globally and evolved into industrial internet platforms in China, playing a key role in the digital transformation of Chinese industrial enterprises. To help Chinese industrial enterprise customers choose suitable industrial internet platform service providers, IDC spent half a year researching nearly 30 vendors and interviewing nearly 30 end users, finally selecting 15 platform service providers that meet IDC standards for this evaluation (in alphabetical order by pinyin): Alibaba Cloud, Baidu Intelligent Cloud, Eastcompeace, GETECH, Humi Network, Huawei Cloud, Jiyun Technology, Kaos, LanZhuo, Lenovo, Rootcloud, PTC, Xugong Information, Advantech, Unisplendour.
Evaluation Criteria and Shortlisted Vendors
China's industrial internet platform vendors have significant business differences. To standardize evaluation, IDC included platform products and solutions in the research based on global IIoT platform definitions. The industrial internet platform refers to single or series products for device connectivity, data integration, data analysis, and application development, based on IoT platforms. Evaluation covers enterprise platform products and solutions, excluding government business. Vendors must provide independent IoT platforms, have platform revenue over 40 million RMB, and over 20% revenue from outside the group. Some well-known vendors were not shortlisted due to not meeting criteria.Evaluation Results
Vendor results are shown via IDC MarketScape model; 6 vendors are market leaders. Overall market insights:
Product forms vary among vendors. Most offer required functions via product combinations, but no consensus on platform form. Some have highly integrated, standardized products; others are dispersed and less mature.
Vendors excel in different industries. Choices differ in customer types, key industries, tech focus, standardized vs. diverse solutions, and ecosystem models. Focus industries include automotive, steel, equipment manufacturing, and machining. More vendors are forming industry teams for deeper expertise.
Industry accumulation needs improvement. Most platforms lack industry-specific components, templates, models, algorithms, and solution planning. Many customers report vendors lack deep industry understanding; only some with industry backgrounds have better积累.
Standardized products are emerging. More vendors recognize their importance, and customer demand is rising, but disconnect remains between R&D and custom delivery. Vendors are transitioning from project-based application delivery to platform + application models.
Recommendations for End Users
Choose suppliers based on your IT foundation and application needs. Large enterprises with strong IT skills should focus on platforms with robust data integration, app development, and modeling. Medium enterprises relying on external apps should prioritize vendor industry understanding and service. Small enterprises should look for rich SaaS features and good support.Focus on business decoupling via platforms, not just app deployment. To avoid data silos, use platforms for unified data aggregation during projects. Decouple data and business models from field, workshop, and enterprise systems through device, line, and object modeling for agile development and flexibility. Most platforms offer device-level modeling; few provide line or business object modeling.
Emphasize platform industry experts and partner delivery capabilities. Vendors rarely have broad industry experience; check their industry teams and experts for good match. Vendors often partner for delivery, but partner capabilities may vary; choose vendors with strong own tech, capable partners, and strict project control.
IDC China Research Manager Cui Can said: "China's industrial internet platform vendors have diverse business models, industry focuses, and strengths. Standardized products are gaining consensus but are not mature; application-led platform remains the main delivery model. Many vendors are not yet profitable, and the market will continue exploring."
